Cabo Pulmo is an idyllic ecotourism destination for ocean enthusiasts looking for a tranquil getaway.
This tiny beach community surrounded by rugged mountains and stunning desert, in lower southeast Baja California Sur, Mexico. Best known as a scuba diving town, divers come from all over the world to see 800 species of marine life, including turtles, whales, dolphins, rays, sharks and an array of reef fish.
With just three streets and barely over 100 residents, it is truly an undeveloped paradise. Locals run the friendly restaurants and dive shops in town. No one is a stranger for long, and fresh caught fish tacos and tropical drinks abound.

Cabo Pulmo’s History
Cabo Pulmo originated in the eighteenth century when the first settlers were engaged in the extraction of mother of pearl from a vibrant coral reef system that grew from the area’s volcanic dykes. Years of overfishing threatened the reef, until the locals lobbied the government to save it.
Through their tenacious efforts, Cabo Pulmo was declared a National Park in 1995. It is now a Unesco World heritage site and offers an eco-friendly way for visitors to experience with the wonderful world beneath the warm waves of Los Cabos.
Meet the locals leading the conservation efforts
The Castros were one of the local families leading the effort to make Cabo Pulmo a National park. To this day, members of the family work in most every occupation serving the visitors and community. From boat captains, fishing guides, restaurant owners and everything in between, their knowledge of the sea and history in the community are a great part of Pulmo.
